Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes balance within our whole system – body, mind and spirit. A non-evasive treatment that can help restore and balance the energies of the body. This means that although we may look to a Reiki treatment for relief from a physical ailment or emotional issue, we may find that we also benefit from a well-being perspective balancing and re-energising our mind body and spirit with benefits on many levels.
You don’t need to “believe” in Reiki for it to have a positive effect on your well-being. In fact, most people are quite sceptical about Reiki when they first hear about it but most also change their minds once they feel the benefits for themselves.
The word Reiki refers to the Universal Life Force Energy which all living things are made up of.
Reiki is a Japanese Word made up of two characters.
REI – Spirit or Soul
KI – Life Force
There are other names used to explain Life Force Energy dependant on whereabouts in the world they originate from, such as Chi or Prana.
What happens in a Reiki treatment?
A Reiki session typically involves the recipient either lying on a treatment table or sitting on a chair, whilst remaining fully clothed. Treatments normally last between 30 and 60 minutes during which time the Reiki practitioner will place their hands gently on the recipient’s body, or just above the body. The practitioner will typically change the positioning of their hands several times as the treatment progresses. All the recipient has to do is relax.
Reiki flows through our bodies to heal in whatever way is best for the body at that point in time.
A Reiki treatment is a highly individual experience depending on what is going on for the recipient. People often report feeling deeply relaxed during Reiki treatments. Some report feeling heat, coolness or tingling where the practitioner has placed their hands. Everyone is different and every treatment is different. The most important thing is to pay attention to how you feel after the Reiki treatment.
During treatment some people will see colours or visions whilst others will just go to sleep and have to be woken up at the end of the treatment. A glass of water should be drunk at the end of treatment to reground.
Reiki will invoke the self-healing function of our bodies and the healing effect will carry on working as the body heals itself too. For some one treatment is sufficient to relax and rebalance them but others find two or three treatments beneficial.
Chakras are rebalanced giving everyone a feeling of wellbeing at the end of the treatment and the energy field around the body is strengthened by ensuring that there are no gaps or hole withthin the aura.
Reiki is carried out over clothes and is a non- invasive treatment and is strong enough to work through a plaster cast. If treatment is made sitting on a chair then it will go through the chair to where the reiki energy is needed.
Reiki comes through the practitioner to the person requiring healing. When you give Reiki you also receive it and the more you do this the more your Reiki will flow for the benefit of yourself and others.
Reiki can also be used to help your pet with healing and wellbeing. Animals respond very well to reiki treatments, they seem to really love the warmth and energy that they receive from the reiki treatment.
