Today we attended the launch of a New Lunch Club at the Lansdowne Hotel in Eastbourne, hosted by Catherine Cifford a partner in the hotel.
As today was International Women’s Day and alsoto celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Woman’s Suffrage Societies the Speakers and entertainment were in keeping. Firstly, Debra Skeen entertained us before the wonderful meal dressed as a Suffragette and singing songs written especially for the movement. We all sang along which brought a wonderful atmosphere to the event
After a wonderful 2 course lunch our Speaker, Frances Stenlake gave a wonderful talk on the Suffragists Movement from the local towns around Eastbourne with illustrations and photographs.
Frances explained that Suffragists were non militant campaigners for the vote and that they did not agree with the militant ways of the suffragettes. Many people in the room had not heard about the Suffragists, myself being one of them, and it was good to find out that so many women supported the Suffragists with their non militant approach even though the Suffragettes received far more recognition and publicity. We found out that there were a great many Suffragists that gathered in Brighton from local areas and then participated in the Brighton -London Great Pilgrimage. A very interesting talk, a lovely event altogether ,we were glad that we were there to be a part of it.
The Lunch Club will be a regular event at the Lansdowne Hotel, the next one being Thursday 12th July 2018. If you would like to have more details about the next Lunch Club please call the Events Team at the hotel on 01323 725174 or email events@lansdowne-hotel.co.uk.
