Some Tips To Help Reduce Stress

By Carole Smith, Karma Violet

Our lifestyle today can be fast paced and full of pressures and within the current restrictions  the added problems and fears all add up to Stress on our body and minds.

As an EFT Practitioner and Trainer, I have worked with many clients over the years that have suffered various degrees of stress. There are a few simple techniques that can help relieve the effects of stress and I thought it may be useful to share some of them with you here.

Firstly, when we slow our breathing down for a few moments our whole system slows down allowing our mind and body to relax and be able to regroup. This breathing technique, literally takes a minute or two but the benefits are immediate.

Six Breath Method

  1. Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of six
  2. Hold the breath for a count of six
  3. Breathe out slowly through your mouth, with your mouth shaped as though you were drinking through a straw or going to whistle. Breathe out until there is no air left in your lungs
  4. Repeat this sequence six times and at the end of the six breathes you will feel more centred and calm. You can do this whenever you are feeling stresses or panicky.

Secondly, here are a few Releasers that you can do at any time to release tension that may be building up in your body.

  1. Sighing

We often do this naturally if we need more oxygen in our body, but it is also a good way to release stress and tension. Try and stand or sit straight whilst you are doing these.

a) Sigh deeply, letting out a sound of deep relief as the air is released from your lungs

b) Don’t think about inhaling, let the air come in naturally

c) Repeat whenever you need to.

2. Yawning

a) Open your mouth wide.

b) Stretch your arms over your head.

c) Yawn (loudly if possible).

d) Repeat as needed.

3. Deep Breathing

a) Step back mentally from what you are doing.

b) Notice how you feel.

c) Take three slow, relaxing, deep diaphragmatic breaths.

d) Notice how you feel.

e) Repeat as necessary.

I hope that these tips will help you overcome moments of anxiety or stress and help maintain your wellbeing.
