“Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds.”
Napoleon Hill, author of the Landmark Bestseller, Think and Grow Rich
Using the Law of Attraction and a positive mental attitude can be a fulfilling and exciting way to bring a better life and to reach your goals and dreams.
Imagine a world where you could change your circumstances by focusing on your own mind and thoughts, with no need to worry about what’s going on around you or what other people are doing.
The Law of Attraction is the philosophy that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts and outcomes, a person attracts positive or negative experiences. It is based on the idea that both people and thoughts are made from energy, and that because like energy attracts like energy, a person can improve their health, wealth and personal relationships by focusing on abundance rather than lack.
Popularised by Rhonda Byrne’s film and book The Secret, the ideas behind the Law of Attraction have become accepted and promoted by life coaches and speakers around the world. Authors, teachers and New Thought entrepreneurs including John Assaraf, Bob Proctor, Dr. Jo Vitale, and Mike Dooley shared their experience and knowledge in both the book and film version of The Secret, and Rhonda Byrne also quotes from notable people throughout the centuries. The Law of Attraction is not a modern concept. In fact, the philosophy has existed for centuries.
In 1897, the American Philosopher Ralph Waldo Trine wrote:
“The law of attraction works universally on every plane of action, and we attract whatever we desire or expect…”
Building the Life of Your Dreams
Using the principles of the Law of Attraction and a positive mental attitude really can create a better life and bring you closer to your goals and dreams. In simple terms, if the only thing you have control over is your own mind, the only thing necessary is to tend to your own thoughts.
That’s kind of exciting, isn’t it?
The Law of Attraction states that whatever feelings thoughts and words are used, whatever energy is therefore put out into the Universe, you will attract more of into your life.
If you are always saying, “I don’t want to be in debt,” “I don’t want to do this job,” or “I don’t want to live where I live,” your focus is on lack; on things you don’t want.
In the same way that the subconscious brain doesn’t hear negative statements, so “I mustn’t forget my glasses,” will invariably result in your glasses being forgotten, the Universe does not respond to “I don’t want.” All that happens is that you attract more of the bad stuff you are focusing on.
Using the Law of Attraction
How can you use the Law of Attraction to bring more abundance and the life that you wish for?
By changing your thoughts, by accepting that you deserve to have what you want, and by focusing positively on your goals in the knowledge that they are already possible, you can make the change from living in lack to living in abundance.
The way to achieve the outcome that you want is to Ask – Believe – Receive.
If you feel that you are in a dead end job or would like to do something different with your life, decide exactly the change that you would like to see and set it as a goal. What you would like to do? What is the position or title that you would like to hold? How much money that you would like to make? Give your goal a time limit – a month, a year, two years, five years…
Ask – Believe – Receive.
Use Visualisation to Power your Thoughts
Create a mental picture of your goal (or the thing you would like) in your mind and hold that thought there for as long as you can. If you can’t see a mental picture, focus on the emotions surrounding the thing you desire. It’s important to visualise your goals as though you have already achieved them, not from a position of lack.
If you want a new car, see yourself sitting in the driving seat; feel your hands on the steering wheel; notice the fabric of the seat covers and the details on the dashboard. Imagine how the gearshift feels. Close your eyes and feel the car around you. Feel yourself driving down the road; love the feeling; believe the feeling. Do this often with whatever your goal is. If it helps, create a vision board filled with vibrant images of the things you want to attract.
The Law of Attraction is about shaping your own life. You will not be able to attract something that involves another person. If you want a relationship, make room in your life for a relationship, visualise walking down the road or spending time with a loving partner, use images and emotions that explore what a relationship would mean to you. But never focus on a specific person. You cannot leverage this energy to affect anyone other than yourself.
It sounds tough!
It’s not as hard as you might think to develop a positive mental attitude. We all know right from wrong, and you can tell whether something is good or bad by the way that your words or your actions make you feel. The motivation is pretty strong when you realise that thinking negatively will hold you back from getting what you want.
Everything that you have attracted into your life so far is a reflection of the way you’ve been thinking. Every one of us is meant to live in abundance. If your life is not abundant, what are the thoughts that have created your experience? You are worthy of having everything you want, but first you must believe all is possible.
And really, what have you got to lose? It’s worth a try!
Saying ‘Thank You’ is Enough
Practising gratitude is immensely important and helpful. Saying, “Thank you,” for everything you receive, in whatever shape that may be, is so important. Being thankful and grateful for the good in your life brings you more of the same. The more often you say, “Thank you,” the more good things you are attracting. Remember: Your thoughts are the only thing that you can truly control. By practising a positive mental attitude you will be taking the first step towards changing your life for the better.
